With tools like Metromix, Yelp, and CitySearch out there, many Illinois
residents may get the impression that local guides are focused
primarily on the Chicagoland area. Not-so says the minds behind
Neighborhood Circle.
Neighborhood Circle (an entity owned by the Sun-Times News Group) is a locally driven site that seeks to leverage the power of the community to provide the most relevant and up to date information with specific suburban areas in the Chicagoland area.
Users are given the ability share photos, post events, and contribute to polls. In many ways, the site mirrors the functionality (albeit in a simpler more straightforward format) of sites like Facebook and Myspace. According to NC's staff, "No story is too big or too small, whether that means a photo of a much loved pet, a blurb about an upcoming fundraiser, a blog about a recent vacation, or a story about a political rally. If it is important to you, it is of interest to your neighbors." In a world of DIGG, REDDIT, etc where people are trying to get their content to the top of everyone's mind, Neighborhood circle gives suburban users a venue to share their hyper local news with people that are most likely to be interested in it.
NC is a fairly new community and the userbase is relatively small but hopefully the "professional" stories provided by the news outlets behind this site will encourage participants to grow the site further with the enfusion of their own personal news and content.
