With the line wrapping around the Chicago Apple Store on Michigan Avenue, I couldn’t help but to feel the Olympic spirit in the air. Eager fans of the new Apple 3G patiently waited in line, bonded with each other and snacked on bagels and cream cheese. One particular story stood out for me - a young man was in line waiting with his entire family. His reason: the experience of waiting in line.
The initial commotion spurred by the CBS Chicago reporter that wanted to ‘get the shot’ in the store as customers walked in quickly dissipated. Kudos to the Apple employees for saying ‘No’. With fans and iPhone seekers waiting ALL night for the opportunity to snag their prize, why should a media person get the first walk through?
As I sit in the Corner Bakery editing this video, en route to my doctor’s appointment, I sensed myself tearing up. Why? Because as an Apple user, I get it. Apple store employees were out on the street, greeting the crowd, answering questions and putting themselves in the shoes of those folks that experienced the showers that descended on Chicago last night.

Note to iPhone users that are about to travel internationally, along with a word of caution..
Before heading to Mexico, I paid $24.99 to include 20 MB of international data. Before my trip ended, AT&T send me a text message alerting me of me having gone over my 20 MB.

I confirmed with the AT&T rep before leaving that I use, on average, 20 MB total for the month. Turns out, I was sending pictures with my iPhone from Mexico, which cut into my 20 MB. I ended up going over my allotment by approximately 10 MB. Terrific. I will now owe $30 or so in data overage charges.
Another tip? Be sure to ask about International calling rates. I paid $4.99 to include a $.59 per minute call plan from Mexico, versus $.99. Now I have to wait a few weeks to cancel the new International plan and data roaming plans....definitely worth the effort, albeit I only needed these services for a week.
